California Highway Patrol (CHP) had its hands busy over the past couple days as multiple accidents and injuries were reported across the state. As always, we urge everyone to practice extreme caution when using California’s roadways. DUI’s, hits-and-run and distracted driving are at an all-time high. Always be a defensive driver and look out for the negligence and ignorance of others to avoid injury to yourself.

In one particularly tragic story, a young toddler was run down and killed after being struck by a vehicle in a Northern California parking lot. The child was a resident of Washington state. The toddler was following his siblings into the store attached to the gas station and was hit by an oncoming car maneuvering through the parking lot. Authorities have not released any further information as they are piecing together the facts of the case. It is yet to be determined which vehicle actually hit the child. The names of the victim and his family have not been released.

Another victim was tragically killed as he was running alongside Pomona Highway east of downtown L.A. The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon and the man was pronounced dead after being struck by a big rig traveling on the interstate. Witnesses report seeing the man dart in and out of traffic while running along the westbound shoulder. The victim has not been identified as authorities are working to locate his next of kin.

A crash on Sunday evening, involving two California police officers, left one person dead and another in serious condition. The two officers were both traveling at a very high rate of speed when one collided with the other in a t-bone situation. One officer suffered severe trauma but has since survived. The other officer was immediately ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Speculation mounted over whether the officers were using lights and sirens at the time. It is has been confirmed that both officers were responding to a robbery call and were on their way to assist at the scene. California Highway Patrol is still investigating.
