Patrol units are in search of a driver who ran a woman off the roadway today after spewing venomous hate-filled language at her. Just about the only thing we loathe more than reckless and negligent drivers are negligent drivers fueled by road rage. We sincerely hope that California Highway Patrol catches this person quickly and removes him from the roadways indefinitely.
The incident was reported on Monday morning in Chico after witnesses reported seeing a pickup truck run a car off the road while using racial slurs out of the window directed at the driver of the car. The driver of the car reported that the slurs were racially motivated and local authorities are pursuing the incident as a possible hate crime.
After swerving into the vehicle multiple times, the truck eventually hit the car and forced her into the curb- a maneuver which disabled the vehicle. The driver’s three-year old daughter was in the car and both suffered minor injuries.
The truck is described as a light blue 1980’s Chevrolet model. Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact California Highway Patrol with details.
UPDATE: Driver apprehended and charged with vehicular assault. The driver was arrested on his job site and police have decided not to charge him with commission of a hate crime, despite the racial motivation behind his assaultive conduct.
The offender, who was traveling with his son at the time of the incident, denies making any racially-motivated comments towards the woman and said his vehicle never even came in contact with hers. CHP confirms that the damage to both vehicles and witness statements confirm there was a collision.
The driver was also charged with operation of a vehicle while on a suspended driver’s license.
