New York Man Charged After Fleeing From a Personal Injury Accident
A Canton, New York man is facing several charges after fleeing the scene of a personal injury accident after he hit a female student with his car as she was crossing the street.
According to reports, police were dispatched to a hit and run accident earlier Sunday afternoon. They pulled over 25-year-old Dustin Rookey afterwards, suspecting he was driving under the influence of alcohol. Rookey was already several blocks away from Park Street, where the accident took place.
Information on what led police to determine Rookey was the suspect involved in the hit and run is not available, but after returning to the police station and testing positive for driving while drunk, he’s been charged with one count of DUI, one count of leaving the scene of an accident, and one count of failing to yield to a pedestrian at a crosswalk.
The victim’s name has not been released, but she is in stable condition.
